Josie's Simple Checklist to Optimize Your Life
Being happy and healthy doesn't have to be (and shouldn't be) so complicated. Following all of these easy hacks will 100% lead you to a better, more optimized life:
Exercise:
Enjoy physical movement that you love: if you enjoy it, your body needs it
Allow creativity to be a part of your exercise routine: try dancing, coming up with your own yoga flow, or letting the body take up space as it wants
Make sure to have daily quiet time: sit in stillness for five minutes every day and your life will be transformed
Nutrition:
Make eating pleasurable: make sure what you eat not only tastes good, but looks and smells good too–the most nourishing foods evoke all the senses
Chew food thoroughly: experts say each chew should take around 30 seconds...yes really. And chew even liquid food like soup or smoothies too, to stimulate the digestive system
Notice and honor how your body reacts to different foods: what is deemed "healthy" to one body might not make your body feel good
Eat whole foods from the earth: that's literally all you need to know to be healthy
Take five deep breaths before eating and have moments of gratitude for your food before and after
Relationships:
Consistently keep a gratitude list for each of your important relationships: record every new thing that makes you feel grateful or happy
Forgive: holding grudges, resentment, or any amount of negativity strongly affects you, no matter whose "fault" it is. Forgive in order to save your own life and energy
Communicate regularly: if relationships are cares, communication is the fuel. Make sure you're refueling often and with high-quality gas
Celebrate what's good: whether they got a raise, aced a work presentation, or had a good trip to the doctor, take the time and energy to celebrate life with the people you love
Hygiene:
Increase circulation: try dry brushing and lymphatic drainage massage
Opt for non-toxic skincare, haircare, and home cleaning products: what you put on your skin or in your environment is just as important as what you put in the body
Consistently rid the body of toxins: oil pulling, regular sauna visits, using the netty pot, etc.
Home:
Make sure your home organized and clean
Keep large, air-purifying plants in every room
Let in as much natural light as possible (put mirrors across from windows if you have limited natural light in your home
Set up/design your home for the life you want to have, not the life you currently have: buy more healthy cookbooks, keep out exercise equipment, invest in furniture you truly love, etc.
Stay away from screens whenever you're not working
Attitude:
Preserve your energy: realize that you do have 100% control over how you react to your circumstances and situations
Lean into negative emotions: get a therapist or journal about them instead of ignoring them
Be silly: do something every day that's "just for fun," and spend the majority of your day laughing
